How to configure Google Pay for Adyen

To offer the Google Pay payment method in combination with Adyen as your payment provider, an additional configuration is required. Below you can find the extra steps you need to complete.

Note: we assume that the configuration for Adyen has already been created. If not, take a look at the manual How to connect Adyen with WordPress via Pronamic Pay.

Request a Merchant ID

The additional step that you have to go through is completing a Google Pay Merchant Identifier. This is the ID of your Google Pay account, which you can obtain by following the steps below.

Time needed: 10 minutes.

Step-by-step manual to configure Google Pay for Adyen.

  1. Request production access

To receive a Merchant ID you must request ‘Production access’ from Google. This creates a ‘Google Pay Developer Profile’. Following this page and press the ‘Request production access’ button to get ‘Production access’. Make sure that the configuration is been set in ‘test’ mode.

  2. Copy the Merchant ID

After Google has approved your request, you will be assigned a Google Pay Merchant Identifier. Copy this Merchant ID en enter the copied Merchant ID in the Adyen configuration on your website, below the Advanced tab.

  3. Register your domain name

The domain name on which you want to use Google Pay must be registered. Navigate to your Google Pay Developer Profile to add the domain name.

  4. Send additional information

Finally, you need to send additional data to Google (such as the URL and any login data), so that Google can verify the configuration in ‘live’ mode.

  5. Retrieve final approval

After Google has checked the integration with the additional data, you get a ‘launch clearance’; Google’s permission to actually offer the Google Pay payment method.

  6. The payment method is configured

The Google Pay payment method is now active and can be offered on your website.

Pay with Google Pay

To be able to pay with Google Pay you must be logged in as a customer with your Google account. Even as a customer it is required to have activated at least one valid payment method before you can actually pay with Google Pay.
